Lima, a colossal and fascinating metropolis, stands as a crucible that encapsulates the diverse richness of Peruvian culture. In its streets, world-renowned restaurants coexist with ancient archaeological sites, creating a unique fusion of the ancient and the modern. Nicknamed the City of Kings, the Peruvian capital is distinguished by its imposing colonial architecture, majestic religious buildings, government headquarters, and other emblematic structures.
Our standard tour of Lima will take you to explore some of the city’s highlights. We will start with the Huaca Pucllana, then move on to the historic Plaza de Armas, the imposing Cathedral of Lima, and the convent of San Francisco, whose underground crypts, also known as the “Catacombs,” will be part of the experience.
The journey continues with Modern Lima, exploring the residential districts of San Isidro and Miraflores. During this journey, we will visit the emblematic Parque del Amor, located on the Malecón Cisneros, and culminate at Larcomar, a shopping center built on a cliff that offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Immerse yourself in Lima’s unique essence as we explore the intersection of its historical past and vibrant present.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am (staying in Miraflores is recommended). As you begin your visit to the city of Lima, the first must-see stop is Huaca Pucllana. This historic site, which served as a crucial ceremonial and administrative center of the Lima culture between 200 AD and 700 AD, stands as a living testament to the past in this part of the Peruvian coast. This sacred enclave is characterized by its seven stepped platforms surrounding a central plaza, accompanied by imposing walls that add a monumental dimension to the landscape.
After immersing ourselves in the history of Huaca Pucllana, we will continue our journey to the heart of Lima’s historic center, an area that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will head to the picturesque Plaza de Armas, the main square of Lima, which is surrounded by magnificent buildings from the colonial and republican eras, many of which display ornate wooden balconies.
The square is home to some of Peru’s most iconic buildings, including the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, the Archbishop’s Palace of Lima, the Municipal Palace, and the Palace of the Union. Our next stop will take us to the convent of San Francisco, where the underground crypts, known as the “Catacombs,” will add to the richness of this historical experience.
