Tour Description

This is a fantastic tour, where we will visit part of the Sacred Valley and witness breathtaking mountain views and a traditional route where you will meet Quechua-speaking residents, keeping their traditional culture alive, adorned in typical costumes, wearing colorful clothes, working their fields in an artisanal way. You’ll see llamas and alpacas and have the privilege of learning the spinning and dyeing process of wool, with natural dyes as in the time of the Incas. This area has the most fertile land and was one of the main crop production centers during the Inca period. You’ll pass through villages built in the colonial period, colorful local markets, and see impressive archaeological sites along the way.

The day at Machu Picchu will take you on a unique adventure as it’s one of the most magical and mysterious places on the planet and one of the most important destinations in South America and the world. Hidden in the mountains and tropical jungle for 400 years, it was discovered in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Chinchero – Salineras – Moray – Machu Picchu Pueblo

We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 a.m., then we’ll drive for approximately 1 hour to Chinchero. There, we’ll visit the archaeological site, where you’ll see llamas and alpacas and have the privilege of learning the spinning and dyeing process of wool with natural dyes and appreciate the way they weave following ancient traditions because the people still keep their culture alive as in the Inca period. Then, we’ll head for 30 minutes to the Salt Mines, which have about 3,000 pools, fed by a hypersaline underground spring, originated about 110 million years ago during the formation of the Andes Mountains. There you’ll see the process and evaporation of water to obtain salt. Next, we’ll drive for about 30 minutes to the archaeological site of Moray, where you’ll see impressive circular agricultural terraces. At first glance, they resemble amphitheaters built in stunning natural depressions. Each of these small terraces has its microclimate, depending on the depth of each one. Moray may have been used as a laboratory to determine the ideal conditions for the cultivation of each species, then we’ll head to Ollantaytambo.

Finally, we’ll take the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo, located at 2000 meters above sea level for 90 minutes, where we’ll have dinner at a local restaurant. We’ll spend the night at a hotel. We recommend going to bed early so you can fully enjoy Machu Picchu the next day.

DAY 2: Machu Picchu Citadel – Cusco

We’ll wake up early this morning to be among the first people to enter the Inca Citadel. We’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast, leave the hotel, and head straight to catch the bus to be among the first to ascend Machu Picchu at 5:30 am. This will allow us to witness a spectacular sunrise at Machu Picchu, which is truly a magical and unforgettable sight. We’ll have a guided tour lasting 2 to 3 hours where your guide will share the history and point out the best spots to get the most incredible photos. After that, you’ll have free time to explore the urban area on your own (please note that once you leave the Machu Picchu citadel, you won’t be able to re-enter on your own).

Then, you’ll take the bus from Machu Picchu to the town of Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) where you can appreciate the town of Aguas Calientes and have free time to visit the town of Aguas Calientes (optional).
